Are you studying Chinese or Chinese literature? Are you a guwen (古文) fan? If you are, we would love your contributions to the Red Cliff page. Below are the guidlines on how to submit English translations of Chinese work:

Guidelines:

Contribute your translations!

What We Want:

We are looking for English translations of Chinese poetry, short essays, songs and short stories. Though the site is mainly for ancient Chinese texts, we welcome modern work as well.

What to Include:

So yes, all ancient poets are dead (as implied by the word ancient) but we still care about who has written the poem. If not for copyright reasons then to properly honor the poet and their work. In your submission include:

1) The name of the poet and the historical period during which they lived (e.x Tang, Sui, Modern China)

2) The original Chinese text (or at least the Chinese title of the peice so that the editors can find it. )

3) English Translations (NOTE: These should be your own translations. If you want to submit translations already written by another author, please go to the contact page instead and send us the information about that translation, we will look into it ourselves.)

Translations should be as true to the original text as possible. Writers are given creative license if for the sake of the beautfy of the poem, but only to some extent.

How to Send:

Send your poem to: saga@ringmar.net and either attach the poem/essay/short story as a doc.,txt.,pdf file or include it in the body of your email. Please remember to include the information (above) about your poet with your poem. Include the bio in the body of your email as well.

We look forward to your translations and thank you for contributing to RED CLIFF!
